Historic Beaufort Foundation receives 100 Women’s first donation of 2017

During their first meeting of 2017, 100 Women Who Care Beaufort selected the Historic Beaufort Foundation to receive their first-quarter donation, ultimately totaling $13,900.  The mission of Historic Beaufort Foundation is to “support the preservation, protection and presentation of sites and artifacts of historic, architectural and cultural interest throughout Beaufort County, South Carolina.”  The funds will go toward repairing and restoring the John Mark Verdier House, which has been damaged by flooding.

The next meeting of 100 Women Who Care Beaufort will take place April 11, 2017.  Check-in begins at 5:00; the meeting will last from 5:30-6:30.

Friends of Shanklin receives 100 Women Who Care’s final donation of 2016

Our fourth-quarter recipient in 2016 is Friends of Shanklin, who received $15,000 to fund students’ learning outside the classroom.  Friends of Shanklin is a 501c3 started by the community to support the Joseph S. Shanklin Elementary School, a Title 1 school, serving students from kindergarten to grade 5.

“Shanklin is one of three schools in Beaufort County, South Carolina, that creates a positive school culture, following a learning model called the “Leader in Me”. Unlike other district schools however, Shanklin faces distinct challenges: About 20% of the students are transient throughout the year, school location limits easy access to afterschool community resources and about 7% of children come from homeless families.” (from the Friends of Shanklin website).

Congratulations to Hope Haven – recipient of 100 Women Who Care’s third-quarter 2016 donation

Hope Haven of the Lowcountry was chosen as the recipient of our collective giving, in amount of $15,300, for the third quarter of 2016. Hope Haven’s mission is to provide comprehensive services that lead to healing for child abuse victims and adult victims of sexual violence, and to increase the community’s awareness of these issues through prevention, education, and outreach.

Congratulations to the St. Francis Center – our latest recipient!

At the most recent meeting of 100 Women Who Care on April 12, 2016, the St. Francis Center (formerly the Franciscan Center) was selected as the recipient of our second-quarter donation.  The St. Francis Center serves the people of Northern Beaufort County in many ways, including:

  • Providing food to the Second Helpings food pantry
  • Repairing homes and helping with electrical, water and medical bills for those in need
  • Preparing food boxes for migrant workers and meals for Seniors at Easter
  • Teaching English as a second language
  • Tutoring children after school
  • Conducting a two-week summer camp for children
  • Providing Christmas gifts for 400 children.

The funds will help the St. Francis Center expand their home repair budget in order to help more people stay safely in their homes (their website is currently under construction).

Two other worthy organizations that were nominated were Broken Tails (www.brokentails.org) and Lowcountry Habitat for Humanity (www.lowcountryhabitat.org).  We encourage you to visit their websites to learn more about the great work they are doing in Beaufort.

Our FIRST donation of 2016 goes to FIRST Books of Beaufort!

With over one hundred women present last night, eight new members and three great presentations, it was a GOOD night. We had the privilege of learning more about Hope Haven, First Books of Beaufort and Habitat for Humanity of the Low Country. After the tabulation of ballots, the membership chose First Books of Beaufort as the recipient of our collective giving for the first quarter of 2016.

The mission of First Books of Beaufort is

“to ensure that every 4 year-old in Title I schools and Head Start Centers in Beaufort County has books in his/her home.”

Congratulations to The Black ButterFly Foundation

At our final meeting of the year on Tuesday, October 13, we had the privilege of hearing about three local charities: Habitat for Humanity, the BlackButterFly Foundation and Hope Haven. This truly never gets old! The donations for this quarter will be going to the BlackButterFly Foundation. It was founded by Angel Ryan in memory of her daughter Christina Ryan-Henegar who lost her life in November of last year following a fire. She had a devotion to her community and passion for the arts. The goal of the foundation is to achieve higher esteem in children through education, the arts, social and cultural instruction. Under One Roof receives the third-quarter grant from 100WWC Beaufort

Under One Roof, a Beaufort non-profit dedicated to the repair, maintenance and modifications of the homes of Beaufort’s Aging-in-Place, was selected by the membership of 100 Women Who Care Beaufort to receive their third-quarter donation.  As it has since the first meeting, the membership of 100WWC Beaufort has grown, resulting in a total donation of $15,100 to Under One Roof.

CODA voted to receive 100WWC Beaufort’s second-quarter donation

At the April 14, 2015 meeting of 100 Women Who Care Beaufort, the growing membership voted for CODA to receive their second-quarter donation.  As the organization had grown from 125 members at the inaugural meeting to 141 at the April meeting, the final total donation to CODA was $14,100.

CODA provides professional supportive services to victims of intimate partner abuse and their children in Beaufort, Colleton, Hampton and Jasper counties in South Carolina.  We encourage you to learn more about the important work that CODA does.

ABLE Foundation receives 100WWC Beaufort’s first donation

At the inaugural meeting of the Beaufort Chapter of 100 Women Who Care, with more than than 100 women in attendance, ABLE Foundation was voted to receive the chapter’s first-ever donation, ultimately totaling $12,250.

ABLE Foundation is the Disabilities Foundation of Beaufort County, fostering and supporting “the activities and purposes of organizations serving people with developmental disabilities”.  Learn more about this excellent organization on their website.
